Tour de Force - East Timor 6

Tour de Force - East Timor 6

August 10, 2003 to August 23, 2003

TDF6 was launched by Mr Peter Lindsay, Member for Herbert (on behalf of Minister Vale, Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence) at a family concert in Lavarack Barracks, Townsville. The concert was attended by over 250 people and was dedicated to the families and friends of those serving overseas as a tribute to their ongoing understanding and support.

A concert at Palm Island concert was linked into the East Timor concert tour to gain a number of efficiencies while providing a major event to help highlight the work the engineers were doing in the remote communities around Australia under the ATSIC Army Community Assistance Program (AACAP). All the engineers and support personnel in Palm Island were extremely appreciative of the concert, both for its entertainment value and its symbolic acknowledgement of their efforts.

In East Timor, it is estimated that the tour achieved attendance of about 90% of deployed Australians. Those who did not attend could either not be released for operational reasons, were on leave in Australia or could not travel to the concert site because of distance. To make it possible for even more soldiers to see the concert, an additional concert was programmed in Maliana. Audience composition at all public venues included Australian, UN and other PKF personnel as well as the local East Timorese.
